LETTER FROM CHRIS

The focus this month seems to  be on Alexander Technique at Studio 206.  Starting in September, the ATTiC, Charlottesville’s AT training course, starts up again at the studio, sharing my office and the studio during morning hours.  Welcome to Daria Okugawa and Rahimah Von Briesen who will be teaching there, and I am excited to join them as faculty.   In addition, three Alexander Technique colleagues will be sharing the office at the top of the stairs, co-creating CAT, Charlottesville Alexander Technique.  I am delighted to welcome Katherine Scott Gilliam, Sara O’Hare and Sandra Bain Cushman to Studio 206.  Stay posted for more on upcoming workshops and classes.

On the personal front, I was pleased, and surprised, a few days ago to receive in the mail a certificate of acknowledgement from the American Society for the Alexander Technique for 20 years of teaching. Wow, has it really been that long???  This past month, also, I completed a post-graduate training for Alexander Technique teachers in the Art of Breathing, a training that is informing and transforming my teaching. I hope for the opportunity to share this work with you.

August is not turning out to be a quiet month at all at the studio.  There is much more going on to read about below:  Alice Chapman’s Mind Body Dancer yoga workshop,  Elizabeth Lemon’s many Qigong classes, must-take Nia classes and events…….

Read on and partake!!

Love,
Chris

A beautiful CD that guides you through health and relationship enhancing practices based on the neuroscience research of relaxation, mindfulness and positivity. $15.00

Local educator and executive coach, Marga Odahowski produced this the Peace, Love & Gratitude CD for her students and clients. When I spoke with Marga she said, “They wanted to practice what they were learning in the classroom at home and they wanted my voice. I am delighted to share this CD with my students and the Charlottesville community.Listening to this program gives you the skills that allow the body to relax, calm the mind and increase kindness. As we experience the value of taking care of ourselves our relationships deepen. And that’s where happiness happens in our connection with others!”

Pumps

Flexion and extension of the hand helps to keep the finger joints supple and the hand strong.   Pumps are the repeated action of squeezing the hand into a fist and releasing.  Imagine that you are milking a cow or stretching out a pair of gloves.  When your hands are cold or have been busy at work at the computer, or writing, or cooking, or raking leaves, take a break and do some Pumps to increase circulation and to release accumulated tension.
